Cellar of the Huchette
The Temple of Swing since 1946
welcome
The history of Paris is intimately linked with that of the Caveau de la huchette.
Well before 1551, the building at No. 5 rue de la Huchette was the meeting place of the Rose-Croix and the Templars and in 1772 it was transformed into a secret Freemason lodge.
Called "Caveau de la Terror", then "Théâtre de la chanson", Les Frères Jacques, Ferré, Brassens and the first sketches by Roger Pierre and Jean Marc Thibault were the first successes of 5, rue de la Huchette.
Every evening since 1946 a jazz orchestra for the pleasure of listening or dancing, in the pure tradition of the Cotton club era, Savoy...
The Caveau de la Huchette even inspired Alan Sytner, then a student in Paris, a lover of the Caveau and later the founder of the equally famous club "The Cavern" in Liverpool, inseparable from the Beatles.
The Caveau de la Huchette, located in the Latin Quarter, receives the big names in jazz:
Jean-Paul Amouroux, Georges Arvanitas, Pete Allen, Marcel Azzola, Ronald Baker, Gianni Basso, Sidney Bechet, Milt Buckner, Claude Bolling, Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers, Carlos, Bill Coleman, Al Copley, Gene Mighty Flea Conners, Kenny Davern, Wild Bill Davis, Manu Dibango, Sacha Distel, Dany Doriz, Harry Sweet Edison, Marc Fosset, Panama Francis et ses Savoy Sultants, Mandy Gaines, Al Grey, Lionel Hampton, Scott Hamilton, Nancy Holloway, Duffy Jackson, King Pleasure & the Biscuit boys, Marc Laferrière, Guy Lafitte, Claude Luter, Eric Luter, Joey Morant, Christian Morin, Jean-Michel Proust, Rhoda Scott, Maxim Saury, Patrick Saussois, Memphis Slim, Gilda Solve, The Jive Aces, Claude Tissendier, Tina May, Benny Vasseur, Detroit Gary Wiggins, Bob Wilber, Zanini, Finn Ziegler, etc.
Open every day and all year round, the Caveau de la Huchette offers the double advantage of discovering a unique Paris and living an immersive experience of Jazz and Swing!
If “Paris is a party”, the Caveau de la Huchette is its most faithful ambassador. Its visitors are not mistaken. Parisian regulars willingly share their pleasure of being together with visitors from all over the world.
Try the experience of Paris at night in this mythical Club. Even Hollywood envy us according to its recent highlight in the film La La Land. So why not you ?
It is Dany Doriz, vibraphonist and friend of Lionel Hampton who has presided over the destiny of this legendary club since 1970.
